Promoting GHG inventories and reduction o become a “Green and Sustainable Benchmarking Enterprise”that offers multifaceted green products
Challenged by global warming and climate change, Tayuan Mill enrolled in the “Industry GHG Inventory and Voluntary Reduction Guidance” pilot program launched by the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) as early as 2004 to implement the GHG inventory system. Further in 2005, Tayuan Mill was granted the world’s first ISO 14064-1 (DIS) verification statement. Based on the success of Tayuan Mill in 2006, we implemented the GHG management system across the group to conduct enterprise-wide GHG inventories and continuously promote various GHG reduction measures.
The commercial operation of the biofuel turbine of the ChuPei Mill will begin in 2021 to reduce electricity procurement from Taiwan Power Company, increase alternative fuel utilization, and enhance energy efficiency. All CLC paper mills also constantly optimize the operation of existing equipment to increase alternative fuel utilization, reduce fossil fuel dependency, and constantly enhance equipment energy efficiency to achieve the goal of 15% use of alternative fuel in 2025.
Taiwan Carbon Footprint Label Promotion Working Project
In 2010 we voluntarily signed up to the “Taiwan Carbon Footprint Label Promotion Working Project” launched by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA). After completing the carbon footprint inventory of the Dandelion paper towel series, we were granted Taiwan’s first carbon footprint label and Dandelion became Taiwan’s first household paper product that was certified by both the “Taiwan Carbon Footprint Label” and “Taiwan Green Mark”. By introducing the carbon footprint inventory system, we successfully calculated the GHG emissions of the Dandelion paper towel series at different stages covering material acquisition, manufacturing, delivery and sales, use, disposal, and recovery based on the life-cycle assessment system. We have also improved the inefficient production and sales processes based on the outcomes to reinforce the implementation of GHG reduction.
In 2018, the sales of the Dandelion 200-sheet recycled Hand Towel exceeded 3 million packs, reducing carbon by 72,250 kg CO2e.
