The founding purpose of CLC Abused Children Foundation (a corporate consortium)
CLC Abused Children Foundation was founded to protect the welfare of abused children, and its objectives include the following:
| I. |
Making donations to provide abused children with financial aid and scholarships. |
| II. |
Organizing welfare activities for abused children. |
| III. |
Assisting abused children in seeking medical advisory services. |
| IV. |
Handling donations related to other abused children’s welfare foundations. |
| V. |
Implement administrative orders given by supervising authorities. |
According to the statistics of the Children’s Bureau under the Ministry of Interior, the number of children/youths in cases requiring protection was more than ten thousand in Taiwan for the year 2006. A child died approximately every eight days as a result of adult abuse or maternal/paternal filicide. A child is abused mentally or physically every fifty-two minutes.
In light of social unrest and the fact that many children cannot receive proper education or are even abandoned or abused, Cheng-Loong Cheng, Chairman of Cheng Loong Corp.(CLC), founded “CLC Abused Children Foundation (a corporate consortium)” in the hope to keep abused children away from harm, as the objective of the foundation is to address the welfare needs of abused children and to organize pertinent community activities.
As many people know, children are the future leaders of our country, so they are also the treasure of their parents. Still, thousands of children are abused every year at home, school or in other environments. Significant casualties concerning children continually occur because many people lack information on how to seek help or because the channels with which help is sought are not easily accessible. Therefore, the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families has launched a “good neighbor campaign to protect children,” and held a 3,000 parent-child hiking activity in Ta-an Park, Taipei city from 07:30-10:30 on August 4, 2007 in the hope that unfortunate events can be prevented.
Our foundation took the opportunity to become a co-sponsor of this event and donated 3,000 hats required in the event. It also enthusiastically participated in the event with Cheng Wuyang, the Secretary General of the foundation, leading more than 50 CLC employees to attend the August 4th event. Cheng also dedicated a speech to children on behalf of the foundation, wishing them “a constant smile without worries,” and saying “The Andante’s family will always be with you because the paper of Andante is the tenderest.” Cheng also wished the participants of the event good health.

The largest paper crane used to pray for blessings
for the children |
The event kicked off at 07:30. The activities included parent-child hiking through Ta-an park, Taiko and children’s drama performances, advocacy activities emphasizing child protection and a raffle draw. A paper crane which was alleged to be the largest in Taiwan and with a wing span of seven meters was on display at the venue. It was hoped that the crane can be used to give blessings to unprivileged, abused children. Finally, a local artist Kuo Tze-chjen led all participants in making a “3C pledge” to protect children. The 3C refers to caring about children without being indifferent, keeping close contact with children to find out their problems, and calling to seek help (by dialing 113 for national women/child protection hotline and 1957 for care hotline). Time flew by as participants were enjoying the moment at the event, so they all had to part ways reluctantly in the end. But they promised to dedicate themselves to child protection in different fields and be each other’s good neighbors.
