CLC's Tayuan paper mill had implemented the Industry Greenhouse Gas (GhG) emission inventory and voluntary reduction system on May, 2004, a project collaborated with Industry Development Bureau, Minister of Economics Affairs. With the assistance of Industry Development Bureau, Minister of Economics Affairs, Foundation of Taiwan Industry Service and BSI Pacific Ltd. Taiwan Branch, the company has developed the GhG reduction strategy: Full Staff Participation, Saving Resources and GhG Reduction, and carried on the task of constantly GhG inventory & management, resources & energy efficiency management, eco-effectiveness improvement, alternative fuel research & development, as well as training & promotion of greenhouse gas emission. In accordance with the GhG reduction & certificate system of WBCSD/WRI, the company has also established the systematic GhG emission inventory, reduction project and the process of internal documentation & auditing, to conduct overall emission reduction improvement and GhG emission control action. Though those practices, the CLC's Tayuan mill had remarkably acquired the world’s first ISO 14064/IDS certificate in summer of 2005.

Based on the experience of the Tayuan paper mill, CLC has extended the ISO 14064 GhG plan and inventory action to the whole company initially. Then, after the release of new ISO 14064 international standard in March, 2006, CLC again implemented the greenhouse gas emission inventory as well as conducted the training of internal auditors. Furthermore, the CLC's Houli paper mill has released the comprehensive inventory of greenhouse gas emission in 2005 with the assistance of the Energy Bureau, and successfully adapted the GhG inventory action into the company's environmental management system. Again, with the release of inventory of greenhouse gas emission in 2006, CLC is capable of controlled the GhG emission of the whole company and resulted in taking the inspection every quarter.

CLC has set up a target on reducing emission of its paper product by 10% in 2010 based on 2005 levels, equivalent to 130,000 metric tons decrease per year. We commit to continuously act on greenhouse gas emission control, not only to reduce energy cost but also to take the social responsibility for better environment.
