Since use of energy such as electric power and steam is necessary for production processes in the paper-manufacturing industry, the company has always had a high regard for effective energy utilization and energy saving to reduce costs. In order to achieve integrated energy application benefits, investment in joint steam-electricity generating equipment was first started in Hou Li factory in 1983, which is the earliest example of integrated energy application in the domestic paper-manufacturing industry. High pressuresteam is used for generating electricity, while low pressure steam is used in the paper machine for paper drying. Through this dual application, energy efficiency is enhanced while energy consumption and cost are substantially reduced. In addition to three proprietary joint steam-electricity generating systems, the company has at present invested in a T a Wei Joint Steam-Electricity Generation Co., which supplies steam and electric power to the T a Yuan Industrial Zone, for the promotion of integral energy benefits. In addition to the implementation of energy management and the pursuit of energy saving excellence, it actively attempts to develop renewable energy sources, such as utilization of waste, wind power, and biogas. In addition to investment in the construction of a 160 tons/day incinerator that treats rubbish mixed with recovered waste paper and mud from effluent disposal, while recovering steam for use as processing energy, investment has also been made in a gas-fired boiler, using methane gas collected in the anaerobic flow of effluent disposal as fuel and recovering steam for use in processes.
The paper-manufacturing factories have kept records of the prizes awarded to them as factories that have achieved outstanding energy savings, issued by the Ministry of Economics several times since 1983 for their performance in energy development, adoption of new energy-saving equipment, and implementation of energy-saving management. They have also introduced a mechanism for greenhouse gas control and reduction to properly fulfill their duties for control of greenhouse gas discharges. |
