Building up the Green Competition and Toward a Sustainable Development.
Nearly five decades ago, CLC started out as a small box converter and expanded into what we known today as the leading Taiwan industrial paper manufacturer and converting company. Due to the saturated Taiwan domestic consumption and already high market share, in order for the company to further expand, CLC must grow the business internationally and compete in the global marketplace. In addition to becoming more competitive in quality, cost and service, CLC also ensures that we create long-term value on an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable basis. Fortunately, CLC has always been conscious and taken initiatives in environmental protection, waste reduction, and energy conservation surpassing global standards.
In the early stages, CLC has already been serving the business practice around the guidelines of “ Caring Life, Caring Resources, and Caring the Society . ” Environmental protection has become a part of the daily business practice. Through various company facilities and management teams, CLC conducts all levels of meetings and programs to train its workforce on environmental protection, waste reduction, energy conservation, cleaner production, and eco-design in commitment to a sustainable development. It is each staff's responsibility to work around these guidelines and be accountable for the well being of the society.
In addition to guiding the company staff through environmental policy, CLC also utilizes government assistant programs to promote ISO9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001, and establishes various environmental protection management tools such as eco-efficiency indicator, environmental accounting, eco-design etc. CLC also actively participates in external competitions to recognize our staff's achievements. Within the past ten years, CLC has already received several major industry recognized awards for environmental protection excellence.
In the past, it was a misconception that investing in environmental protection would increase business costs. However, many enterprises have now proven that with the right protection strategy, businesses can actually create new competitive advantage by increasing a superior corporate image. For that matter, CLC has established the shared concept within the company that all staff would proactively make conscious improvements starting from the very source of the business production chain as well as working from all aspects of the development process in pursue of environmental protection, labor safety, and eco-efficiency. Furthermore, CLC points out the following key points in turning protection policies into competitive advantages:
| 1. |
Turn environmental protection policy into part of the company slogan. For example: “Sincerity, Integrity, and Credibility,” “Caring Life, Caring Resources, and Caring the Environment”. Let this be the slogan to represent CLC's corporate culture and the image that differentiate us from our competition. |
| 2. |
On the management side, through PDCA to pursue continual improvements on environmental protection, labor safety, and eco-efficiency. At the same time, set targets to conserve energy, reduce waste, reduce environmental protection expenses, and provide recognition through various awards and certifications. |
| 3. |
Through waste reduction, cleaner production, energy conservation as well as increasing the ratio for recycled paper utilization to reflect a superb corporate image in the global market place and improve business performances. |
Sustainable development is now a part of all business's mission. Currently, the global economic development is advocating a trend in “Fighting the Green Competition.” In order to be sustainable in today's environment, enterprises need to find the right balance between their economic, environmental protections, and consumer's goals. The so call “Fighting the Green Competition” is a competition from aspects of not only in management, R&D, production and services, but also includes human rights, labor safety, and social responsibilities. CLC is fighting the competition through industrial waste reduction, environmental management, cleaner production, eco-design, self-protection policy, and also through OHSAS 18001 professional safety and health management. CLC has made investments in environmental protection facilities such as pollution prevention equipments, co-generation facilities, incineration system, and energy generating windmill equipments. By means of the above-mentioned facilities as well as the corporate policies, CLC is dedicated to fight the “Green Competition.”
However, a corporation by itself has limited ability to fight the “Green Competition.” Therefore, we must utilize the full business supply chain to create a complete industrial “Fight for the Green,” which in return will enhance business values and further sustain corporate development. |
